The Los Angeles Dodgers confirmed that Vincent Edward “Vin” Scully, the team’s voice for more than six decades, died. He was 94.

Scully was born in New York City and raised in Manhattan. He was noted for his distinctive voice and signature introduction. His father worked as a silk salesman, and his mother was a housewife. Scully was reared by his mother when his father died when he was four, and she later remarried a merchant sailor.
Scully got his first job in Manhattan at the Pennsylvania Hotel, where he delivered beer and mail, cleaned silver, and moved clothes racks in the basement.
After two years in the Navy, he enrolled at Fordham University, where he began his career as a student broadcaster and journalist. He co-founded the school’s FM radio station and worked as an associate sports editor for The Fordham Ram while there. Scully was also a member of the Rams baseball team, where he played center field.
Scully was employed as an announcer for the Brooklyn Dodgers’ broadcast team in 1950, at the age of 22, alongside Red Barber and Connie Desmond. In 1958, Scully relocated with the Dodgers to their new home in Los Angeles. He called games for the Dodgers for 67 years before retiring at the age of 88.
