Who would have guessed that Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s romance would evolve into a marriage fraught with domestic violence and abuse?
The domestic violence case involving Depp and Heard began soon after they married on February 5, 2015.
Only a month after their wedding, the 56-year-old “Pirates of the Caribbean” star drew public attention when he displayed his finger injuries while filming “Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” in Australia.
According to Depp, as his hand was resting on the bar, the “Aquaman” actress smashed and flung a vodka bottle at him. Heard is said to have slingshotted a huge bottle at him, cutting his finger.
Following the aforementioned legal issues in Australia, Heard filed for divorce on May 23, 2016, effectively ending their 15-month marriage. Multiple news agencies later reported that the actress blamed their divorce on “irreconcilable issues.”
Things became more complicated after Heard filed a temporary restraining order against the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” star the following month. She claimed she required the RO because her ex-husband allegedly mistreated her.
The judge ordered Depp to stay at least a hundred yards away from Heard and warned him not to contact his ex-wife in any way because of the photographs showing her multiple bruises on her face.
Divorce Settlement Between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard
The former couple agreed to a $7 million divorce settlement in August 2016. Instead of keeping the money, Heard donated it to the American Civil Liberties Union and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
After her divorce from Depp, Heard began dating Elon Musk, but the couple separated three months later.
Just when fans thought Depp and Heard’s feud was over, the “All The Boys Love Mandy Lane” star authored an op-ed piece in The Washington Post headlined “I Spoke Up Against Sexual Violence – And Faced Our Culture’s Wrath That Must Change.”
The story is about female victims of domestic violence, and the actor’s identity was dragged into a poor light, causing him to lose his award-winning role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise.
In October 2018, the film’s original author Stuart Beattie spoke with DailyMail TV and declared that Depp’s time as the series’ centerpiece was finished.
Defamation Suit Filed Against Johnny Depp
After the op-ed and the article labeling Depp a wife-beater harmed his reputation, he filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against The Sun and Heard to prevent his life from being further ruined.
The aforementioned article detailed how J.K Rowling, the creator of Harry Potter, chose to cast the “wife-beater Depp” in a “Fantastic Beasts” film despite the allegations against him.
Heard filed an appeal in March 2020 to have the lawsuit dismissed since the case is barred by a one-year statute of limitations.
Judge Bruce D. White, however, gave Depp the green light to proceed with his defamation complaint because the actor filed it within four months of the article’s publication in 2016, making it legal.
Between these incidents, a slew of potential pieces of evidence emerged, ranging from leaking audios to recordings, prompting Heard to dig her own grave.
Their domestic abuse case was put on hold due to the coronavirus, and they must now prepare for another personal hearing soon.
Once it is over, the facts will emerge, and only then will people know whether Depp is the victim or the abuser.
