After signing a two-year agreement with the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, LeBron James became the highest-paid player in NBA history.
ESPN revealed the contract precludes the possibility of the four-time NBA champion and MVP and 18-time All-Star entering free agency next summer.
According to Fox News, James’ current contract with the Lakers has only one year left on it.
LeBron James Contract Extension
LeBron James signed a contract extension agreement for $97.1 million. A 15% trade kicker is also included in the deal.
According to Sporting News, James’ contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers runs from 2024 to 2025 and includes a player option.
James will get around $44.5 million in the 2022-2023 season, $46.7 million in the 2023-2024 season, and $50.4 million in the 2024-2025 season. His contract extension will begin in 2023.
The deal agreement also raises LeBron James’ earnings above those of other elite NBA players like as Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Damian Lillard.
LeBron James is scheduled to receive $528.99 million as part of his contract extension. This figure is $30 million higher than Durant’s earnings of $498.69 million.
The salary James will get from his extended agreement will be the second highest of any of his prior Lakers contracts. James earned around $153 million between 2018 and 2021, and approximately $85 million between 2021 and 2023.
Because he will be 38 or older when his current contract ends, James may only sign a two-year extension. The league’s collective bargaining agreement includes this regulation.

James has hinted about wanting to play alongside Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry in recent months. In an April episode of HBO’s “The Shop,” James stated that he would like to play with Stephen Curry “in today’s game.”

However, his new contract will not allow him to do so.
In light of the “All-Star Break,” James stated that if his son, Bronny, made it to the professional level, he would like to play with him. He also expressed interest in rejoining the Cavaliers.
Former Lakers champion Robert Horry, though, informed Fox News that James would remain with the team.
Horry also noted:
“He got the Hollywood in him now. He got the movies. He got so many contacts out here. He can’t do that if he goes to Cleveland or Miami or anywhere else… He’s a Laker for the rest of his … 13 more years he’s going to play.”
