The hosts of the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards have been unveiled, and it’s a fairly fascinating combination.
On August 28, MTV will welcome three generations of hip-hop to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, for the much-anticipated VMAs.
This year’s MTV Video Music Awards will be hosted by LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj, and Jack Harlow, who will keep true to their MC backgrounds as they introduce the night’s key events and herald in enormous highlights that fans are looking forward to.
According to Billboard, the unlikely three hip-hop megastars will reveal the show’s performance roster, which will feature Minaj, the presenters, and the lucky winners.
The three would also host the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards in a “more original and distinctive way” than the conventional hosting sequence, according to the statement.
This will be the first time the program has been presented by more than two co-hosts since MTV VJs did it twice previously. Julie Brown, Alan Hunter, Mark Goodman, Dweezil Zappa, and Martha Quinn headlined the show in 1986. Brown and Zappa returned the next year but were replaced by Carolyne Heldman, Michael Tomioka, and Kevin Seal.
Will Nicki Minaj Host, Accept the Award and Perform?
Nicki Minaj, the queen of rap, could be the busiest person that night, playing three parts in one day.
Nicki Minaj and Lil Baby were nominated for Best Hip-Hop Video for the action-packed “Do We Have A Problem,” which they were expected to win. Aside from that, the “Anaconda” rapper will also receive the night’s top honor.
Minaj will get the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which is given to an artist for their “exceptional accomplishments” and “deep effect” on music video and pop culture.
She would be performing in addition to receiving his two trophies.
Nicki has a history of going all-out at the VMAs, and with “Super Freaky Girl” anticipated to arrive at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts this week, many are speculating that she may premiere a live version of the song on the VMA stage.
She would be presenting alongside LL Cool J, who is also a Video Vanguard recipient and multi-VMA winner, and Jack Harlow, who is tied for the most nominations on the night with Lil Nas X and Kendrick Lamar.
