The first born of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, might not be able to get another offer to have a royal title following the Sussex couple’s rejection to the title of Earl of Dumbarton for their son. Reports have it that the royal pair had concerns over the word “dumb” in the royal title as it could be used against Archie when he grows up.

Prince Charles may not offer a new royal title for Harry, Meghan Markle’s son Archie

Royal expert Grant Harold claimed that Archie would no longer have a royal title, such as His Royal Highness or any alternative to the Earl of Dumbarton, when his grandfather, Prince Charles, becomes king.

“It is difficult to say if Archie would be offered another Royal title in the future – and to my mind unlikely. George V patented that his children and grandchildren would be styled HRH, however as Archie is a great-grandchild of the monarch he was not entitled to an HRH,” Harold told Daily Express.

“As it has been reported Prince Charles when he is king wants to slim down the Royal family. I therefore doubt Archie will ever be styled HRH or any other Royal title, but then again time will tell,” he further said.

For starters, Prince Harry was given the Earl of Dumbarton title when he tied the knot with Meghan in 2018 and the Scottish nobility could be passed on his first-born son. However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex refused to give Archie that title.

Harold said Queen Elizabeth would have been surprised about Prince Harry and Meghan’s refusal the title of The Earl of Dumbarton for Archie. Her Majesty, however, would surely respect their decision.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle’s future is reportedly unpredictable at this stage

Meanwhile, other reports suggested that the future of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle remains unpredictable with Archewell having a hard time to take off. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams attributed the delay to the COVID-19 pandemic, but insisted that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are likely to continue with their charity work despite that.

“There are so many rumours at the moment about how and why William and Harry fell out. Rumours about the relations between Meghan Markle and Kate and what actually happened in the past years. It is very difficult to say what is going to happen,” Fitzwilliams said. “You have a completely unpredictable situation. Obviously there are the deals that they have made with Netflix, Spotify, Harry with some posts he will be taking up and obviously they have Lilibet,” he went on.

Fitzwilliams added that it would also be a matter of seeing the causes Prince Harry and Meghan aspire to. Most, if not all, followers of the royal couple know that they are most keen on things involving mental health, environment, gender equality and diversity.

The royal commentator, also, shared it is hard to project if there would be a reconciliation happening soon or it could take a long time or might not happen at all. To recall, the relationship of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with the other members of the royal family was strained following their decision to step down as senior royals in early 2020.

It remains unclear if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would comeback to the United Kingdom following the Duke of Sussex’s recent trip for the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue. Others are also unsure if the royal couple would bring their two children — Archie and Lilibet Diana to the U.K. for future royal events.
